Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health gives hiring preference to applicants who achieve National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC). To receive NCRC, interested applicants must contact a Missouri Career Center. A High School diploma/GED is required. Graduation from a College level business or secretarial school is preferred. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures and skilled in the use and care of standard office machines and equipment.  Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software applications to include spreadsheets, word processing, and database management is essential.

Must pass background check provided for the agency by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Family Care Safety Registry which includes the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Department of Social Services, Department of Mental Health and Department of Health and Senior Services.  Must not be on any "do not hire" list with the Department of Mental Health or the Missouri Division of Family Services.


The Intake Specialist position provides information regarding agency services, fees, and other general information to people presenting themselves for services.  

The position checks the eligibility of people for benefits from healthcare payor sources including, but not limited to Medicaid and Private Insurance.

The Intake Specialist is responsible to ensure all required documentation for benefit eligibility is completed with each person presenting themselves for services, regardless of program, prior to any reimbursable service being received, including assessment or diagnosis.

This position will ensure that no client is presented to a service provider to receive services prior to all administrative (non-clinical) requirements of the client's insurance plan or other payor source being met, which allow for reimbursement to the Agency for providing services.

The Intake Specialist must be proficient in the use of the Agency's Electronic Health Record System.

The Intake Specialist must understand and comply with Agency confidentiality procedures pursuant to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and 42 CFR Part 2.

The Intake Specialist will carry out all duties and responsibilities in a manner that consistently demonstrates Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health's values to customer service, professionalism, teamwork, and continuous quality improvement. A working knowledge of organizational policies and procedures related to the intake process is essential to this position. Good communication and organizational skills are required. This position requires an ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with co-workers and clients. Regular and consistent attendance is an essential job function.
