Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health is a community based, healthcare provider of substance abuse, mental health, and co-occurring disorder treatment services. The agency is certified by the Missouri Department of Mental Health, Division of Behavioral Health as a provider of Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment services and accredited through CARF as a provider of Integrated Alcohol and Other Drug and Mental Health services at all of its locations.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in groups and public settings is essential.  Must demonstrate highly developed verbal and written communication skills; demonstrate skill in clinical interviewing; demonstrate skills in consultation and the ability to work as part of a team.  Must respect and maintain confidentiality of all aspects of client treatment.  Must pass background check provided for the agency by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Family Care Safety Registry which includes the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Department of Social Services, Department of Mental Health and Department of Health and Senior Services.  Must not be on any "do not hire" list with the Department of Mental Health or the Missouri Division of Family Services. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education and experience is a plus and must match those required for professional credentialing boards.  Recognition by the Missouri Credentialing Board (MCB), or its successor, as:

  • Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC)
  • Certified Reciprocal Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CRADC)
  • Certified Reciprocal Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CRAADC)
  • Qualified Addictions Professional (QAP)
  • Registered Alcohol Drug Counselor (RADC)
  • Registered Alcohol Drug Counselor-Provisional (RADC-P)
  • Certified Co-occurring Disorder Professional (CCDP)
  • Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional (CCJP)
  • To qualify as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor with certification as a MAADC I, or MAADC II, an appropriate college degree in social sciences is required.

Designation for any job credential is not official until received from the certifying credentialing board in writing.

Employees are required to maintain the certifications and/or licenses possessed when hired and those gained while an employee of this agency.  Any lapsed certification or license may be grounds for discipline, removal from a position, or termination of employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Staff must demonstrate intellectual vigor and communication skills in the interpretation and presentation of clinical subject matter; promote positive morale through a congenial, supportive attitude toward clients and peers; exhibits initiative, innovation and creativity resulting in improved clinical outcomes and client comprehension of issues as well as improved clinical operating efficiency of their work focus or the agency as a whole; demonstrates concern for and sensitivity to the needs of clients and staff; appears to leave a favorable and lasting influence on clients; puts forth an effort to improve self as well as to develop and recognize others; and enhances the image of their department and of Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health.

Counsels and aids individuals, groups and families requiring assistance dealing with substance use and co-occurring problems, such as alcohol or drug use, mental health and/or chemical dependency and use.  Regular and consistent attendance is an essential job function.  Current certification in CPR and first aid is required. 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Knowledge

Displays knowledge of the Agency's Mission, Vision, Policies and Procedures;

Displays knowledge of the population served by the Agency;

Displays a basic knowledge of mental illness, substance use and dependence;

Displays knowledge of Motivational Interviewing;

Displays knowledge of Cognitive Behavior Therapy; and

Displays recognition of and a respect for cultural differences among Agency staff and the      consumers served. 

Treatment Planning and Implementation

Collaboratively develops, implements, and updates the client's treatment plan according to agency procedures and required time frames;

Provides services outlined in the clients' treatment plans;

Monitors the condition of clients to evaluate the success of therapy;

Conducts periodic client reassessments;

Adapts treatment as needed through revision of the treatment plan;

Collaboratively develops a plan with strategies to support recovery and prevent relapse; and

Collaboratively develops a discharge and aftercare/continuing recovery plan within agency procedures and timeline.

Service Delivery

Develops positive and productive client relationships;

Counsels individuals, groups and families requiring assistance with substance use, mental    health, and co-occurring problems;

Provides information, education, and counseling to individual clients according to their treatment plan;

Interviews clients and reviews client records to evaluate the recovery status of the individuals being served; 

Provides holistic, person-centered care; and

Provides services that result in positive outcomes in the treatment domains.

Documentation

Documents services in the client record according to protocol and timelines;

Appropriately uses the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system; and

Competently uses the Missouri Department of Mental Health supported systems.

Developing, Coordinating, and Utilizing Resources

Confers with other staff to discuss client needs and status of the clients' recovery in a timely manner; and

Supports individuals in crisis situations in order to resolve the crisis.

Professional Development and Credentialing

Demonstrates an increasing continuing level of counseling knowledge and proficiency by seeking advancing levels of certification through the Missouri Credentialing Board (MCB). 

Substance Use Disorder Counselors must obtain their credentials as described above within 6 months of the Substance Use Disorder Counselor's meeting the MCB's criteria for application.  Substance Use Disorder Counselors will be expected to continually advance toward the highest credential for which they qualify. 

Work toward advancing credentials must be included in the Substance Use Disorder Counselor's Professional Development Plan that is developed in concert with the Substance Use Disorder Counselor's supervisor.
